Absolutely amazing. Loved it. Loved every minute of it. In fact, going to watch it again in a few minutes. Helps if you have watched the play or have read the book (yes it's an adaptation of a Hugh Wheeler book).
I am not a fan of musicals, I like select few only. I am - more often that not - disappointed by adaptations, but this one is a classic. Don't think many people would enjoy this movie though (my view). Well I couldn't care less. As I mentioned, I loved every minute of it. I enjoyed the book, was pretty much convinced the movie would disappoint me, but it didn't. Well done. Good job by everyone. Absolutely brilliant.
Just a bit of information - WON - Best Musical, Best Book (by Hugh Wheeler) and Best Score, as well as five other Tony Awards for its Broadway Premiere in 1979. [/color]

you haven't read the book?
The play was even adapted and performed in India (somewhere in the 80's) ... of course with slight variations..
it's a musical, i doubt the kids would enjoy it anyways. horror.. errr.. kind of a thriller.. I mean....
This should help
